So close I can almost touch it. #empirestatebuilding (at Midtown Loft & Terrace)
Every day after work Adem is waiting for me outside work. He drives a yellow cab, but knows that I will need a ride, and systematically turns down other people while he’s waiting for me.
He’s originally from Turkey, and moved to America to support a growing family. He worked in construction for over 30 years. When the economy collapsed there were no construction jobs. He bought a cab instead.
He always says to me “Money isn’t important in love, until it is.”
A normal day for Adem is over 12 hours, but he loves to see the different faces of the city. He has told me stories of models, actors and executives that ride in his backseat. Most of them don’t even know he’s there. Some of them, myself included, ask him about his day and tell about theirs.
Moral of the story: Talk to your cab drivers. They also have a story. Maybe you can make a momentary friend.
